This one-contact hour home-study continuing education program outlines the nursing management of diseases that are caused by hypercoagulable states. Educating and caring for patients with deep vein thrombosis (DVT), pulmonary embolism (PE) or disseminating intravascular coagulapathy (DIC) is discussed. This program describes prevention, assessment of signs and symptoms associated with hypercoagulable states, and treatment for these conditions.

Dr. Ruth McCaffrey is currently an Assistant Professor of Nursing at Florida Atlantic University, College of Nursing. She received her Nursing Doctorate from Case Western University and a Master of Science in Nursing from Florida Atlantic University. Dr. McCaffrey maintains an active practice as an advanced family nurse practitioner.
